In the previous chapter of the on-line book FONDEAR we looked at the types of anchors and the qualities they should have, with the aim of helping us to choose the most suitable anchor(s) for a sailboat. In this second chapter we will address the next fundamental component for safe anchoring, which is the anchor chain; and we will do so by answering 2 key questions:<\/span><\/p>\n

– What length of chain should I anchor with (depending on depth and weather conditions)?<\/span><\/p>\n

– How much chain length should I have on board in the chain box?<\/span><\/p>\n
