Paula Gonzalvo (Allende los Mares) and Pedro Jim\u00e9nez (Alegr\u00eda Marineros) are ready to begin their 65,000-kilometer journey over 12 months, following a completely unprecedented route: from the 0\u00ba meridian to the 180\u00ba meridian, that is, from the Arctic to Antarctica. Their sailboat, the Alegr\u00eda Marineros, is also ready\u2014an aluminum vessel specially reinforced to navigate the ice of the polar circles. Paula Gonzalvo and Pedro Jim\u00e9nez will not only be spending long watches at the helm, facing waves that could exceed 10 meters in height, dangerous icebergs, and hurricane-force winds. Their journey combines adventure with science, as it will also serve to collect samples of marine biodiversity, analyze the presence of microplastics in polar waters, and record various parameters from the five oceans of our planet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For this reason, Vuelta Vertical has secured the support of prestigious academic institutions, such as the University of Alicante, the Ram\u00f3n Margalef Multidisciplinary Institute, UCN, the UN Decade of Action on Oceans, and True World.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But what&#8217;s more, and this is also innovative, the entire voyage will be broadcast live 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via the internet. Pedro Jim\u00e9nez, for his part, is the driving force behind the Alegr\u00eda Marineros (Sailors&#8217; Joy) sports association, and boasts experience exceeding 200,000 nautical miles, including polar crossings.
