Joshua Slocum, a veteran sea captain, upon retiring, spent thirteen months completely restoring the “Spray,” an old 37-foot sailboat that had previously been used for fishing, and prepared it for a solo voyage around the world.

In 1895, at the age of 51 and with just $1.50 in his pocket, Joshua set sail from Boston, and after several stops, completed the first solo circumnavigation of the globe by sailboat in approximately three years. The “Spray” proved its excellent seaworthiness and handling capabilities.

In this book, Joshua Slocum masterfully recounts his great adventure with a wonderful sense of humor. A very entertaining book that deserves a place of honor on any sailor’s bookshelf.
