Sus perseguidores, por su parte, esperan evitar por los pelos una depresión tropical, pero no un mar agitado y picado. Más lejos aún, los demás siguen luchando por cerrar las brechas, que se ensanchan y luego se estrechan a medida que cambian los sistemas meteorológicos.

Two days after snatching second from Sébastien Simon (Groupe Dubreuil) Yoann Richomme, skipper of PAPREC ARKÉA is hard on the heels of Charlie Dalin (MACIF Santé Prévoyance). At just less than 18 miles behind Dalin, who has led since December 2nd, Richomme is consistently quicker.

While Charlie Dalin (MACIF Santé Prévoyance), the race leader, is due to pass into the Pacific this evening or tonight, and also cross the theoretical half way point of the 23,890 nautical miles course for the Vendée Globe 10th edition, way far to his west – nearer the Kerguelen Islands – skippers in the second half of the 38 boat fleet are struggling with robust conditions generated by a tough low pressure system.

And after the breakaway…. the comeback. As is very often the case in the Southern Ocean, big breakaways caused by one weather system are rarely maintained on the Vendée Globe and today the tables have turned a little more in the favour of those immediately behind the top two skippers, leader Charlie Dalin (MACIF Santé Prévoyance) and Seb Simon (Groupe Dubreuil).
