Introduction
In the first chapter of this book “on-line” BUYING A SAILBOAT, we elaborated a list of ten (10) essential requirements that can help us not to make a mistake in our choice of a sailboat. One of these essential requirements is the type of sail rig, as it would be very difficult and costly to modify later.
In this second chapter, we will look at the different types of rigging possible for a sailboat, and discuss in general terms some of their advantages and disadvantages depending on the intended use of the boat, whether it is for cruising or racing, coastal or offshore.
These rigs are: the SLOOP (in its three forms: SLOOP (TOP OF HE MAST), FRACTIONED and SOLENT), the CUTTER and the KETCH.
