Introduction.
In the first chapter of this on-line book “ONBOARD ELECTRICS” we start the design of our main 12 V (DC) electrical system estimating the total daily consumption of the equipment we use on board with the boat sailing, and in the second chapter we dimension the service (house) battery bank needed to have a robust system that works with guarantees.
Throughout this third chapter, we are going to analyze the power generation capacity we need and the different power source options we have at our disposal to configure a balanced electrical system.
In the previous chapters we saw that the 12.5 meter ocean-going sailboat, which we use as an example, has an estimated daily consumption of 280 amps, and we have sized a 620 Amp-h service battery bank (more than double the daily consumption).
